Overview: Customizing Electrical Systems for International Installations
The first Opti-Glides were designed for our clients right here in New York City. Since then, we have been fortunate enough to install systems across the world. As international interest continued to expand, we found ourselves needing to support a variety of electrical systems. This necessitated the design of a modular electrical system with flexible power requirements. The design also needed to be efficient to install to minimize disruptions to our client’s operations as well as reliable and easy to service.
Understanding the Global Electrical Landscape
Electrical standards vary significantly from region to region. The key differences are the voltage and frequency of the electrical supply, the plug type, and safety regulations and standards. These variations necessitate a thoughtful design approach to ensure our products perform reliably regardless of location. An excerpted table of electrical characteristics and plugs we have encountered can be found below.

System Design Considerations
1. Flexible Power Supply Architecture
A key component of our international design strategy is creating a flexible power supply system capable of handling a range of input voltages and frequencies. This often involves:
- Universal Input Design:
Designing power supplies that accept a broad range of voltages (e.g., 100-240V) helps streamline production while ensuring compatibility. - Adaptive Voltage Regulation:
Using advanced voltage regulation techniques ensures stable performance, whether the supply is 120V or 230V, mitigating the risks of power surges or fluctuations.
2. Modular Plug Customization
Rather than designing a unique product for every market, our engineers focus on modularity:
- Interchangeable Plug Modules:
By creating detachable plug adapters, the same core product can be used across different regions. These adapters can be easily swapped during installation, ensuring a secure and compliant connection.
Industry Standard Connectors:
Our use of industry standard cables and connectors ensures that the Opti-Glide can be easily serviced by owners without requiring a technician.
Opti-Glide Power Requirements
The Opti-Glide is designed to have no special power requirements to allow it to be plugged into any ordinary outlet. It doesn’t require high voltage or multi-phase power and has a very modest current draw. On 120V, this draw is about [] amps without the motor and [] with the motor. At 240V, these numbers are reduced even further.
The Opti-Glide can accept voltages in the ranges 95-125V and 190-250V and frequencies from 50-60Hz. This allows the Opti-Glide to be compatible with electrical systems worldwide. If you have any additional concerns or special power requirements, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss your application.
